چکیده

In this paper, we investigate the behavior of strain gradient elasticity solutions around sharp edges body loaded by concentrated loads. We consider general Mindlin–Toupin (SGET) and several simplified models, including dilatation theory (DGET) couple stress (CST). framework a plane problem for an elastic wedge with prescribed tip displacement obtain analytical assessments field state apex. Involving Papkovich–Neuber solution show that nonsingular can be obtained within SGET models provide regularization dilatational rotational parts both. incomplete theories such as DGET or CST singularity in displacements stresses at apex cannot avoided. This result is validated also based on full-field numerical wedge-type domains. It shown bounded complete theories, while mesh dependent are realized CST. Generally, results means boundary value problems edge-type loading should abandoned like it considered only under some additional assumptions (similarly to classical elasticity).

Free Vibration Analysis of Microtubules as Orthotropic Elastic Shells Using Stress and Strain Gradient Elasticity Theory

In this paper, vibration of the protein microtubule, one of the most important intracellular elements serving as one of the common components among nanotechnology, biotechnology and mechanics, is investigated using stress and strain gradient elasticity theory and orthotropic elastic shells model. Microtubules in the cell are influenced by internal and external stimulation and play a part in con...

Static analysis of rectangular nanoplates using exponential shear deformation theory based on strain gradient elasticity theory

In this research, the bending analysis of rectangular nanoplates subjected to mechanical loading is investigated. For this purpose, the strain gradient elasticity theory with one gradient parameter is presented to study the nanoplates. From the best knowledge of authors, it is the first time that the exponential shear deformation formulation based on strain gradient elasticity theory is carried...

Computational Evaluation of Strain Gradient Elasticity Constants

Classical effective descriptions of heterogeneous materials fail to capture the influence of the spatial scale of the heterogeneity on the overall response of components. This influence may become important when the scale at which the effective continuum fields vary approaches that of the microstructure of the material and may then give rise to size effects and other deviations from the classic...

Causal explanations within weak and incomplete theories

Citation: Axmacher N (2015) Causal explanations within weak and incomplete theories. In a previous article (Axmacher, 2013) I argued that neuroscientific and psychoanalytic explanations are in general epistemologically consistent with each other, even if psychoanalytic claims refer to (typically unconscious) reasons, whereas neuroscientific claims are about causes. I claimed that hermeneutic (p...
